Lizzo’s incognito Perth vegan mission to Le Vietnam cafe on Barrack Street

US singer Lizzo kept a down-low on the streets of Perth last week but sent her production manager on a quest to deliver the vegan superstar Perth’s unquestionably best bánh mì.

The vegan celebrity touched down in Perth last Tuesday ahead of her show at RAC Arena on Friday night to kick off the Aussie leg of her The Special Tour.

In order to to pull off a stunning show, Lizzo needed some pre-concert vegan fuel and what better place to get a quick fix than Le Vietnam cafe on Barrack Street.

The cafe, run by DJ Lee and wife Emily, is known for their tasty traditional Vietnamese sandwich wit fillings like pulled pork, soft shell crab and vegan options of course.

While Lizzo herself didn’t enter the store, the lucky business received a visit from a member of her team who stopped by to get the singing sensation a pre-concert snack.

DJ Lee revealed via Instagram on Friday afternoon that Lizzo’s production manager stopped by to pick the star up a vegan bánh mì.

“Lizzo’s production manager D just popped through to grab 2 bánh mìs – one for her and one for Lizzo,” the post said.

“She even showed me her back pass lanyard thingy to prove.”

When a follower asked what she ordered, Lee said “original 3meat for manager, el veganito for Lizzo.”

The bánh mì king later shared how more detail on the exchange which happened 13 minutes before the cafe shut up shop for the day.

“It’s 2.47pm, we got 13 mins til close, and everyone is cleaning up. It’s quieting down, but we serve right up until 3pm. A lady walks through, eyeing all the achievements across the wall from door to counter, smiles and knows she’s at the right spot, she halts and scans the menu. I can see on her phone screen is google maps, so it guided her to the right spot,” he said in another post.

DJ Lee went on to explain that he and the woman, with a Spanish accent, engaged in a short conversation after Lee asked what had brought her to Perth and to his cafe.

“With a beautiful Spanish accent, she explains to me how she found this place, like somebody close to her had told her to go, and how it’s on every website of recommendation, so she had to come through. She tells me her name. I ask her what she’s doing in Perth, and she says they are doing a show tonight at the RAC Arena,” the post continued.
