Mamelodi Sundowns given boost in Orlando Pirates striker chase?

Mamelodi Sundowns may have been given a lifeline in their chase for Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa

Sundowns were believed to be advancing in a deal to take Mabasa away from Pirates before FCSB entered the race.

Pirates are ready to revamp their attacking department for next season, and are making big decisions behind the scenes. The club management is set to draw up a list of forwards that they want to keep, offload and sign. The one man who is undoubtedly their top attacker at the moment is Mabasa. The left-footed hitman returned to his parent club from a loan spell to fellow Soweto giants Moroka Swallows

FCSB previously interested in signing Mabasa

He was one of the few shining lights at Swallows, as they started the season brightly. After some financial disputes, things spiralled and Mabasa returned to Pirates. He had already contributed six goals to the cause of the Dube Birds. Fast forward to the final stretch of the campaign and he has become the main man at the Bucs. He is also the second highest top goal scorer in the league as things stand. That type of form has seen both local and international interest in his services.

Locally, it is rivals Sundowns who have been reported to be keen with Pirates willing to sell. Now with this publication reporting that FCSB have since dropped their interest in the player, it could advantage to the Brazilians.

Could Sundowns now be encouraged to get him from Pirates

Mabasa’s agent stated the player’s desire to move abroad, with FCSB have pulling out, Sundowns could be the next best option. He was apparently close to joining the Brazilians both at the start of the season and in January. Could the recent development give them hope of finally making the signing

This publication recently reported that Pirates are lining up a lucrative new deal for Mabasa. This could be the reason FCSB pulled out. Either way, Sundowns will be hoping to tempt him to Chloorkop.
