Man in court charged with ‘murder bid’ after ‘cop chased with chainsaw’ on Scots street

A MAN has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a cop was “chased with a chainsaw” on a Scots street.

Liridon Kastrati, 30, from Paisley, appeared in the town’s Sheriff Court today to face charges over the alleged incident.

The alleged incident unfolded after a vehicle crashed into a stationary police car on Glasgow Road.

Pictures from the scene showed a wrecked patrol vehicle smashed into a wall outside a home on the street.

Footage shared of the alleged incident appeared to show a man chasing a uniformed officer with a chainsaw.

Dozens of officers raced to the scene and arrested the suspect.

Officers closed down the area after the alleged incident.

Two officers were injured and had to be treated by paramedics.

Mr Kastrati made no plea as he appeared in the dock.

Alongside the murder bid allegation, he was also charged with four road traffic offences, breach of the peace and being in possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1pm on Monday, 6 May, 2024, a disturbance involving a weapon occurred following a collision involving a car and a stationary police vehicle on Glasgow Road in Paisley.

“Two officers were injured and were treated by paramedics.

“A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with this incident. He is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 7 May.

“A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.”
