Motorsport in mourning after Australian SuperUte driver Craig Jenner dies, aged 55

The motorsport world is in mourning after the death of SuperUte Series driver Craig Jenner.

Jenner, a 55-year-old father of three, lost his 10-year battle with bowel cancer.

After Jenner died, V8 SuperUte Series put out a statement on Facebook.

“It is with a heavy heart that we pay tribute to our dear friend and fellow racer Craig Jenner who sadly passed away today,” it said.

“A very special member of our series, Craig has courageously fought cancer over recent years but never let it stop him from being with his V8 SuperUtes and greater motorsport family.

“When he hung up the helmet early last year, he still attended our events when his health enabled him to, despite putting on a brave front while we knew he (was) going through rigorous medical treatment.

“We are forever grateful to have spent as much time as we could with him, and forever inspired by how he always put others before himself. He was the kindest of souls gone way too soon.”

Jenner made his debut in the V8 SuperUte category in 2021, and in 2022 he promoted bowel cancer awareness with the message ‘Get checked’ splashed on the side of his car.

He last raced in the season-opener of 2023.

In an interview in 2021 with The Senior, he revealed his father also had bowel cancer but said he did not think that created extra risk for him.

““Bowel cancer is a silent killer. Put yourself first. Get checked,” he told The Senior.

The V8 SuperUte Series had already made a touching tribute for Jenner, naming the Rookie of the Year trophy after him.

Category Manager, Luke Sieders said that trophy was a perfect to celebrate a “great man”.

“From the beginning, during the rebirth of the V8 SuperUte Series back in 2020, Craig Jenner was one of the biggest supporters of mine helping to push the category forward,” Sieders said.

“His belief, support and passion for what we all believe in at the Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series is part of the reason we have made it here and so quickly as a great series.

“He will be sorely missed but never forgotten and everything we do as a category will be in honour and dedication to the commitment, belief and passion Craig showed for our category and sport.

“The Craig Jenner Rookie of the Year Trophy is truly an amazing way for us to celebrate a great man and his passion for our series and will be special to us all.”
