Netaji Subhas Open University employees protest social media silence directive

KOLKATA: Netaji Subhas Open University‘s employees were instructed by issuing a notification from the registrar’s office and asked not to make any statement on social media or press media. After receiving this order on Monday, the University teachers’ association opposed it and issued a press statement on Monday.
The notice issued by the registrar’s office stated, “It is expedient for invocation of Article 34 CHAPTER VII (GENERAL) of the Netaji Subhas Open University are directed not to speak to any kind of press/media/social media on any matter relating to the University…”
Adding to it mentioned in the notice that any violation or noncompliance with the order will invite disciplinary action.
After issuing this order, Netaji Subhas Open University Teachers’ Association issued a press statement saying, “We are opposing this kind of order and we are demanding to withdraw it immediately. University teachers played a vital role during the deadlock situation when the university didn’t have a vice-chancellor.
So, now this order was issued by the university to stop such activities.” One official of the university said, “It’s a routine matter and nothing has been issued against the university’s rules and regulations.”
