New South Wales residents may be eligible for $180 energy rebate as well as one-off $500 lump payment

NSW families could be eligible for an energy rebate of up to $180 to help pay for electricity bills, as well as a lump sum payment of up to $500.

Residents of the state who receive the Family Tax Benefit may be eligible for the 2023-24 Family Energy Rebate of up to $180, according to the state government.

The NSW Family Energy Rebate aims to help people with dependent children pay their electricity bills, with Service NSW warning applications for the rebate are set to close at 11pm on Sunday June 16, 2024.

If you are a retail (on-market) customer, you can apply for the NSW Family Energy Rebate online.

You could also receive a one-off National Energy Bill Relief Household Payment as a lump sum of up to $500 in the 2023-24 financial year if you meet the eligibility criteria, which includes:

  • Your application for the NSW Family Energy Rebate is successful
  • Your household has not already received the National Energy Bill Relief Household Payment

You may be eligible for the rebate if you live in NSW and hold an electricity account in your name and have lodged your tax return for the last financial year with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), and finalised your entitlement to the Family Tax Benefit payments with Centrelink.
