Nicolas Cage suited up on set of new movie The Surfer being filmed in Yallingup

Hollywood heavyweight Nicolas Cage has been spotted in unusual beach attire while on set for his new movie The Surfer being filmed in WA’s South West.

The 59-year-old is on location in Yallingup where filming is underway for the psychological thriller which is reportedly two weeks behind schedule.

On Monday he was seen looking chic in a light grey suit with a beige linen shirt underneath and dress shoes.

With hair slicked back and shading his eyes with dark glasses, Cage was the epitome of Hollywood star quality.

In another image, part of the set could be seen with a wooden sign that read “locals only” visible in the background.

The Californian must be feeling the heat in his fancy outfit as down at Yallingup Beach it is expected to hit 20 degrees throughout the afternoon.

These new set images come after Cage flashed his rarely-seen tattoos on Sunday.

Looking cool in an O’Neill wetsuit vest, dark sunglasses and surrounded by a production crew, he showed off his collection of tattoos.

In a 2022 video interview with Wired, where Cage answered the most Googled questions about himself, he revealed he had 12 tattoos but kept the details behind his ink to himself.

The National Treasure and Con Air star is in the region for the Lorcan Finnegan-directed thriller and was on Friday seen with blood pouring from his head and, in other images, a blood-soaked shirt during filming.

The Academy award-winning actor landed in Perth with his wife Riko Shibata, 28, and their young daughter August last week, before heading to the surf town to begin filming.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film follows Cage’s character returning to his beachside hometown in Australia, many years after building a life for himself in the US.

But he goes on to be humiliated in front of his teenage son by a local gang of surfers, played by local Margaret River teens, who claim strict ownership over the secluded beach of his childhood.

“Wounded, The Surfer decides to remain at the beach, declaring war against those in control of the bay. But as the conflict escalates, the stakes spin wildly out of control, taking The Surfer to the edge of his sanity,” the report said of the synopsis.
