Orlando Bloom opens up about being under ‘severe stress’ at home with fiancée Katy Perry

Orlando Bloom has opened up on the reason there has been “severe stress” at home with his fiancée Katy Perry and their three-year-old daughter Daisy.

The British actor, 47, embarked on some serious risk-taking for a new adventure show called Orlando Bloom: To The Edge, which dropped this week on US subscription channel Peacock Original.

In the show, Bloom participates in three extreme sports — wingsuiting, free diving and rock climbing — “to push himself to the edge of what is possible”, according to the show’s synopsis.

“With family, friends and his spiritual Buddhist practice guiding the way, Orlando is trained by experts who help him overcome obstacles, face his fears and discover valuable lessons about himself.”

But it seems his family was unaware of just how mentally and physically challenging some of the escapades were.

Chatting on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Bloom said Perry, 39, was “fully supportive” of the project — but hadn’t realised just how full-on it was going to be.

“Obviously, she’s fully supportive,” he said.

“But I don’t think she had quite fully grasped what I would be doing until I came home from work and I was clearly under severe stress.

“And she was like, ‘Are you okay?’, because ordinarily I’m super chill.”

Perry appeared in the first episode of To The Edge as Bloom went wingsuiting, which meant jumping out of a plane at a height of 13,000 feet.

The Roar singer was on the plane with him as he prepared to, quite literally, take a flying leap.

Bloom said he came up with the idea for the show during the COVID lockdowns of 2020.

He told the Associated Press the program had allowed him to achieve things he had only ever dreamed of before.

“I’m like a collector of experiences in some ways,” he said.

“I’ve been remarkably gifted and fortunate to have some unique ones.

“But (wingsuiting) was definitely like, ‘Oh, wow, I’m capable of this. Therefore I can do anything’.”

The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean star said the show was designed to make viewers contemplate what got their own adrenaline pumping.

“For me, the idea of the show was like, ‘Well, what is it for you?’,” he said.

“What is your version of jumping out of a plane?

“It doesn’t have to be physical or death defying.”

He added: “I’m very grateful for my life. I’m even more grateful having survived Orlando Bloom: To The Edge.”

So, we would suggest, are Katy Perry and little Daisy.
