‘Pitso Mosimane asked me to join him, I switched off my phone’

A former Al Ahly star has opened up about rejecting a reunion with Pitso Mosimane in Saudi Arabia.

It is not often that Mosimane doesn’t get a player he wants, especially one who has played under him.

In South Africa, Mosimane was able to convince Kaizer Chiefs duo George Lebese and George Maluleka to join Mamelodi Sundowns. But one former player that escaped him was Gaston Sirino, who he wanted to lure to Al Ahly. That transfer saga got so bad that the South American was pictured wearing a Red Devils jersey. This in a training session between the two teams met in a CAF Champions League a few seasons back.

Mohsen rejects Mosimane offer

Mosimane is now at Abha Club in Saudi’s top flight and finds himself embroiled in a relegation scrap. One of the players he wanted to sign, in order to try and get out of it is former Al Ahly star Salah Mohsen. Mohsen played 44 times for Mosimane at the Club of the Century, after signing for Ennpi in 2018. During that period he managed to find the back of the net eight times, before laying one assist.

Mohsen is currently plying his trade at Al Masry SC but reveals he was asked to join Mosimane at Abha Club. He admits to turning his former boss down.

“Mosimane asked me to come to Saudi Arabia, but some time ago my circumstances were not good and I turned off my phone, and when [Al Masry manager] Ali Maher asked me to stay, I could not refuse,” Mohsen said to Elfagr Sport as per KickOff.com

Would he have been of much help?

Mohsen has only scored four goals in 17 games in all competitions so far. That could mean he maybe would’ve not been of much help to Mosimane and Abha. It remains to be seen if ‘Jingles’ manages to steer the side to safety.
