LONDON, April 28: Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, is set to commemorate the milestone tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games, his renowned paralympic-style event for former and serving armed forces members. Confirmed on Sunday, April 28, the 39-year-old royal will journey to London on May 8 for a special celebration.
The inaugural Invictus Games debuted in London in 2014, and in honor of its anniversary, a commemorative service will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral in the heart of the city. Prince Harry will participate by delivering a reading during the service.
Renowned actor Damian Lewis, known for his role in “Homeland,” will recite the Invictus poem. The writer of this inspirational poem, William Henley, is honored with a memorial bust in the Crypt of the cathedral.
The service is anticipated to draw representatives from the participating nations of the Invictus Games, including wounded, injured, and sick service personnel, along with veterans. Additionally, community members, supporters, and beneficiaries will participate in the service, which will be led by The Very Reverend Andrew Tremlett, the Dean of St. Paul’s.
The Invictus Games have traversed the globe since their inception in London, with subsequent events hosted in Orlando, Florida; Sydney, Australia; and Dusseldorf, Germany. Next year, the inaugural Winter Games will take place in Whistler, Canada.
