The 41-year-old returned to his royal duties in April after taking some time off to support his wife through her health battle.

Kate revealed in a video in late March she was undergoing “preventative chemotherapy” after a form of cancer was detected in the results following her abdominal surgery in January.

It remains unclear exactly when the Princess learned about the grim reality of her condition.

However, reports have surfaced that William missed his godfather’s memorial service last minute in March because he had learned of his wife’s cancer news, the Daily Mail reported.

At the time, the palace announced that William’s last-minute absence was due to a “personal matter”.

“William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” Kate’s video message continued.

“It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.

“But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.

“We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment.”
