QLD husband and wife snake catching duo Tony and Brooke Harrison bitten by eastern brown

A Queensland wife and husband are in hospital in serious conditions after they were both bitten by a deadly eastern brown snake.

Tony and Brooke Harrison, who run Harrison’s Gold Coast and Brisbane Snake Catcher business, were bitten during an attempted removal job in Stockleigh in Logan on Sunday afternoon.

It’s understood the couple, who have a son, may have been attempting to remove two eastern browns that had been mating in a garden when one of them bit both of them. 7NEWS is attempting to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

The removal was being livestreamed on Facebook but the video has been deleted, sparking an outpouring of concern for the couple.

Tony was bitten on the wrist and rushed to Logan Hospital by paramedics in a serious but stable condition, Queensland Ambulance Service said.

Tony said on Monday morning he and Brooke were both in hospital. He suggested Brooke had initially not required hospitalisation — or realised she was bitten — but later “collapsed”.

“Been a rough 24 hours,” he said.

“My bloods are turning for the better now.”

He said “things went south” for Brooke about 1am on Monday.

“Brooke has collapsed and been admitted at 5am,” he said.

It’s the second time Tony has been bitten by an eastern brown, the world’s second most venomous snake.

He endured a dry (venomless) bite after trying to remove the snake from under an air conditioning unit in Pimpama in late 2019, while he was livestreaming the job.

“I saw that the snake had darted under the aircon unit, so I went to grab its tail, but it had turned around,” he told Sunrise in December 2019.

“So when I stuck my hand under there, its face was right there waiting for me.

“I’m very aware of the potential possibilities, so I was scared to say the least.”

“I was worried about not seeing my family again.”
