Second man charged over riot sparked by bishop’s alleged stabbing

A second man has been charged after thousands of people clashed with police following the alleged stabbing of Sydney bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel.

The Assyrian preacher was delivering a live streamed service at a church in the city’s west on Monday when he was allegedly stabbed by a 16-year-old boy.

Police arrived to apprehend the teen, who has since been charged with a terrorism offence, but clashed with a large group gathered outside the church.

Following an investigation, police executed a search warrant at a home on Throsby St in Fairfield Heights on Friday where they arrested a 45-year-old man.

The man, who has not yet been named, was taken to Fairfield police station where he was charged with riot and threatening violence which caused fear.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.

It comes after NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb vowed to pursue those allegedly involved in the riot which injured more than 20 officers.

The first man charged over the alleged incident, Dani Mansour, was granted bail at Blacktown Local Court on Thursday as he faces multiple charges,

Police allege the 19-year-old, who is yet to enter any pleas, filmed himself damaging two police cars on the night before uploading it to his own Instagram.
