Shadow Of The Erdtree’s Map Will Be

The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree trailer has been released, and FromSoftware’s largest, most expansive DLC ever is set to launch in June. The trailer has been well-received, showcasing new bosses and landscapes. The game takes place in the “Land of Shadow,” where players will be drawn in by Miquella’s desiccated arm. One question remains – just how vast is the Land of Shadow?

In an interview with IGN following the trailer, Miyazaki hinted at the size of the expansion compared to the base game: “It’s hard to answer without giving away too much and to a high degree of accuracy, but if you think in terms of scale or size, it’s probably comparable, if not larger, than the area of Limgrave from the base game.”

Limgrave, a starting zone in Elden Ring, is not one of the largest areas. However, considering the vast scale of Elden Ring, it still represents a significant size. Miyazaki’s statement suggests that the expansion’s map may match or exceed Limgrave’s size.

Comparing Limgrave to other regions like the Atlus Plateau and Liurnia of the Lake, Caelid, and the Weeping Peninsula or the Consecrated Snowfield/Mountaintops of the Giants, Limgrave seems smaller. However, in the context of the entire game, Limgrave represents about 10-15% of the total traversable space. While this is significant in most games, it is a smaller portion of Elden Ring’s vast map.

While it may seem challenging to fit an entire expansion into Limgrave’s size, Miyazaki’s comments suggest that there is much we still do not know about the Land of Shadow and how it integrates into the game. As such, it’s advisable to reserve judgment until more information is revealed. With four months until release, it remains to be seen how much FromSoftware will reveal in their marketing campaign, as they typically keep many game details under wraps until launch.
