SNL’s Weekend Update Lampoons Kristi Noem Dog Killing

Governor Kristi Noem (R-SD) was pilloried on SNL’s Weekend Update over the revelation in her new book that she once shot and killed her dog Cricket.

In a rollicking sketch, Colin Jost introduced Gov. Noem’s “other dog” — named “Cricket the seventh.” Played by Marcello Hernández, Cricket VII explained “the first six were bad dogs.”

“But you know what they say?” Cricket VII said. “Lucky number seven, right?”

Initially, the pooch defended his owner — but faced some skepticism from Jost.

“She’s a great dog owner,” Cricket VII saidl. “All this stuff about killing animals is just media spin.”

“But she wrote about it in her own book,” Jost replied.”

“I can’t read,” said Cricket VII. “I’m a dog.”

“Right,” said Jost. “But you know what media spin is?”

“Look the dog was the problem,” Cricket VII fired back — to laughter from the audience.. “Barking, eating every day. Who does that? If she didn’t kill him, I would.”

Before long, it was revealed that Cricket VII’s true motiviation for standing up for Noem was self-preservation — as he issued a distress call by pressing buttons on one of his toys, prompting a voice to say “She. Is. Going. To. Kill. Me.”

Cricket VII wrapped his cameo by pleading for his life.

“I’m a good boy!” He insisted.
