BOTH have captained their country and share 145 international caps between them – but across two different sports.
And though he admits he doesn’t follow the round ball game too closely, former Scottish rugby skipper Stuart Hogg still admires his fellow sport stars.
That’s perhaps why he paused for a picture with another Scotland captain – Rangers hero Barry Ferguson.
The duo were pictured after a chance airport meeting just hours after Hogg posted a sun-kissed update to his Instagram story.
And he was bowled over by the former midfielder who he dubbed ‘an absolute gentleman’.
Hogg clutched a Starbucks takeaway as he grinned alongside Ferguson, 46.
He wrote: “Not the biggest football fan but I appreciate talent when I see it.
“This fella was one of the best to grace the turf & represent our country.
“Pleasure to meet Barry Ferguson today. Absolute gentleman.”
Ferguson played his last competitive game back in 2014 as he moved into management.
But Hogg only hung up his boots last July, shortly before the rugby World Cup.
He now works as a pundit for TNT Sports but has teased a possible return to the pitch in recent weeks.
After being pictured on holiday with partner Leonna Mayor, rugby website Ruck posted a story saying he looked in “incredible shape” ahead of a possible comeback.
And Hogg replied: “Awesome, who’s signing me up then? I’m keen, 100 percent.”
He had previously said on the The Big Jim Show podcast: “Will I play professionally again? Probably not.
“Could I have taken a sabbatical? Maybe I could have…
“But the decision now is that I am retired and I stand by that. Physically and mentally I wasn’t there.
“I think I’ll play [but] I don’t think I’ll play professional. I might have a little run-out for Hawick next season and see how that goes.”
Hogg is due in court this week to face a stalking charge which alleges he engaged in a course of conduct that caused fear and alarm.

He is also cited on two other charges – one under section one of the Domestic Abuse Scotland Act and another of failing to comply with an undertaking.
He is expected to appear in Jedburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
