The 1% Club host Jim Jefferies tells of staffer going into labour mid-show

It seems almost anything can happen on the set of The 1% Club.

This was the experience for one staffer on the latest season of the Channel 7 game show, starring comedian Jim Jefferies.

Jefferies’ heavily pregnant hair and make-up artist was preparing the host for filming when she told him something did not feel quite right.

“She went into labour while doing my hair and make-up,” Jefferies tells 7NEWS.com.au.

“To begin with, she just thought she was having a bit of a tummy rumble or something, but she went into labour!

“To her credit, she finished my hair and make-up, and doing my hair is no easy job — it’s a real smoke-and-mirrors show to get that thing looking alright,” he joked.

The games show host said the make-up artist had “suspected something was going on” but wasn’t sure.

“But when we went to the ad break and I went to catch up with her … the producers said, ‘She’s gone to have the baby!’

“By the time we got to the next ad break, she’d already had the baby!”

The hair and make-up artist had welcomed a little boy.

“So turns out it takes so long to film an episode of 1% Club that you can go into labour, go to hospital, have a baby and call back,” Jefferies jokes.

Hosting the 1% Club, Jefferies puts contestants to the test to determine if they are smarter than one per cent of the population.

Unlike most quizzes, general knowledge isn’t what players need to excel.

Instead, it’s all about logic and common sense.

The 1% Club returns at 7.30pm Wednesday February 21 on Channel 7 and 7plus.
