Two-year deal on the table for an underrated Kaizer Chiefs star?

Mozambican utility star Edmilson Dove’s Kaizer Chiefs contract is expiring at the end of the season but Amakhosi are moving quickly to tie the Afcon 2023 star down.

Kaizer Chiefs value Dove

According to iDiskiTimes, Edmilson Dove will stay at Kaizer Chiefs despite his contract running down in June 2024. Itumeleng Khune, Keagan Dolly, Sifiso Hlanti, Njabulo Ngcobo, Siyethemba Sithebe, Jasond Gonzalez and George Matlou are in a similar boat but Dove is one of the few much likelier to stay than go. Dove is a reliable performer either as a left-sided central defender or a left full-back. His current deal includes a two-year renewal option. His recent partner Given Msimango was red-carded against Sundowns so he should claim his place back in the side next to the fit-again Thatayaone Ditlhokwe for the foreseeable future.

Sources close to Dove and Chiefs indicate that the player’s two-year renewal option will be triggered. It’s understood that Dove’s versatility and the fact that it gives Chiefs tactical options is a clinching factor.

“He has shown the right attitude, whether playing at left-back or in central defence. Unless something drastic happens, he’s likely to stay at the club for another two seasons,” a source told FARPost.

2023-24 HASN’T BEEN KHUNE’S BEST VINTAGE

Itu has only featured four times in the league this term, with zero clean sheets. His disciplinary issues at the back end of 2023 have been well-documented, and we won’t go into those again, but they threaten to taint his final campaign as a Glamour Boy. That being said, nothing can truly detract from his exemplary record and numerous achievements at the club. A shade under 20 years in the senior setup, 346* appearances and more trophies than most players can dream of in a lifetime. He’s one of several players set to depart Naturena.

Do you rate Dove and should the club keep him on board for another two years?
