KRIS BOYD has shown he can still find the back of the net after taking on a Premiership striker in a shooting drill.
The Rangers legend and SunSport columnist scored over 250 goals during his time as a player before retiring in 2019 – but he could have bagged a few more.
Boyd, 39, challenged St Johnstone new boy Luke Jephcott to a shooting drill as Saints coach Liam Craig and the rest of the squad watched on.
The Welsh striker is only just in the door at McDiarmid Park after agreeing a two-year deal last week following his release from Plymouth Argyle.
But the 23-year-old forward put his shooting to the test against the five-time Scottish top flight Golden Boot winner – and it was a rather tight affair.
Jephcott was up first and managed to score three out of five chances before Boyd stepped up and replied with two before blaming Saints youngster Ben McCrystal for one of his crosses.
The St Johnstone striker then hit back with one in the next round while Boyd scored two to take it to a tie.
The former Rangers, Kilmarnock and Scotland hitman had the chance to take the lead with his final shot but his header floated wide of the post to see it end level.
St Johnstone coach Craig joked before the challenge that he had to tweak the drill because Boyd wasn’t happy with the amount of running involved originally.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “We’ve got Luke our new signing from Plymouth facing up against Kris Boyd so we’re looking forward to it.
“We’ve cut the running right down, I don’t think Boydy was happy with the running earlier so we’ve cut that back.
“Two strikers, two goalscorers so hopefully it’ll be a lot of goals.”
Fans were left impressed with the Light Blues legend’s skills and one even joked that he could still play at Ibrox.
One comment read: “Get Boydâs fit and back at Ibrox.”
Another wrote: “Just something about watching Boydy score goals.”
