West Coast defender Tom Barrass could face scrutiny over a dangerous tackle in the final quarter of the western derby.
Barrass is likely to be assessed by the match review officer for a tackle where Fremantle forward Michael Walters’ head hit the ground.
A free-kick was paid and Walters kicked a goal from a set-shot.
The Eagles defender took Walters in a standing tackle and spun him more than 360 degrees before bringing him to ground. Barrass’ back hit the turf first, before Walters’ head.
The AFL will reveal on Sunday if Barrass has been cited for the incident.
It comes with concussion — and dangerous tackles — in the spotlight. Charlie Cameron escaped a ban for a tackle on Melbourne’s Jack Lever on appeal this week.
The AFL will reveal on Sunday if Barrass has been cited for the incident.
West Coast coach Adam Simpson hinted to the Cameron appeal in a cheeky dig post-match.
The Brisbane forward escaped a ban in part because of his character and clean record, including references to his community work.
“I didn’t catch it all. So I can’t really comment on it. I hope he gets off. He’s a good guy,” Simpson said.
Barrass’ western derby performance was his best for the season. Coming in, he was ranked fourth in the league for goals-scored-against.
On Saturday night he curtailed Luke Jackson’s influence in the game and took 11 marks of his own in a mammoth defensive effort.
