What If Tesla’s New Affordable EV Was A Model 3 Hatch?

  • Tesla has confirmed that it will offer more affordable electric vehicles, though it has not provided any details.
  • A talented designer created this compelling Model 3 hatchback concept, sparking desires for an official Tesla hatchback.
  • A hatchback version of the Model 3 could boost sales, especially in European markets, but Tesla hasn’t shown any official interest in this body style.

Tesla recently confirmed it is working on more affordable electric vehicles, and while it didn’t specify if this includes the long-rumored Model 2, it’s news that has excited many, including the brand’s stockholders. Despite the negative Q1 results this week, shareholders gave the company a thumbs up boosting its stock prices upon learning the news.

Now, here’s an idea; imagine if this affordable car turned out to be a hatchback version of the Model 3.

Just to be clear, as we mentioned, Tesla has given no indication of what form that car could take. For all we know, it could end up being a stripped-down 3 (as some analysts have recently suggested).

Nevertheless, just to give us an idea of what the new Model 3 could look like as a hatch, talented designer Theottle has rendered this compelling creation. And let me tell you, it makes us wish the Model 3 had been a hatch all along instead of a sedan.

The sleek shape of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta serves as the base for this creation. Its rear half was grafted onto the Tesla before the characteristic elements of the Alfa were removed and replaced with parts from the Model 3, such as its more modern LED taillights. Additionally, the side windows have been altered, and various parts from the new Model 3 Performance have been fitted. These include the diffuser and the wheels, complete with removable aero caps.

What If Tesla’s New Affordable EV Was A Model 3 Hatch?

There are some obvious similarities between the shape of the Model 3 hatch depicted and the current Mazda3 hatchback, which, in this writer’s eyes, remains one of the best-looking hatches on the market.

Were Tesla to ever build a hatchback version of the Model 3, it would almost certainly sell in smaller numbers than the sedan. However, it could certainly help the carmaker grow sales of its current entry-level model with relatively little investment needed to create it, while offering a very strong option in markets outside the U.S., such as Europe.

However, as neither the brand nor Elon Musk has ever expressed much interest in a Model 3 hatch, we don’t expect to see it reach the light of day.
