What’s the Deal With Lupita Nyong’o’s Red Carpet Cat?

Earlier this morning in London, Lupita Nyong’o marked her first press tour stop to promote her forthcoming horror film, A Quiet Place: Day One—the prequel to 2018’s hit thriller A Quiet Place, starring Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. Posing on the red carpet with her co-star Joseph Quinn, Nyong’o looked elegant and spring-ready in her refined pink linen suit for the photo call. But it was her unexpected choice of accessory—not a bag or clutch, rather an adorable little furry feline—that has us doing a double-take. So, what’s the deal with the cat?

While Nyong’o is indeed is a cat mom herself—she adopted a cat, Yoyo, last year—the black and white feline on the red carpet is not her own pet. Turns out, the cat is famous on their own accord—its name is Schnitzel!—and stars in the upcoming film, too (you can even see them in the trailer). Clearly, Schnitzel has an eye for style, donning a black and white polkadot bandana and bowtie.

And sure, both Nyong’o and Quinn looked impeccably chic in their tailoring on the step and repeat as well. But there’s something about a cat in formal wear that will simply steal the show every time. And hopefully there are more fabulous fashions—and cat-itude—from Schnitzel to come. Meow!
