Woman, 18, killed when stolen car loses control and crashes in central Toowoomba

A teen in an allegedly stolen car has died in a late-night crash in Toowoomba, while the young man allegedly driving has escaped with minor injuries.

The 18-year-old woman was in the silver Holden Commodore that crashed near the CBD in the early hours of Friday.

The local woman died from her injuries in what police say was a single-car crash on Hursley Rd.

According to police, the car lost control and crashed into trees.

Police had spotted the car “shortly prior to the crash” but say officers did not chase it.

The ethical standards unit will look into the incident.

The 19-year-old Ipswich man allegedly behind the wheel of the Commodore suffered minor injuries and was taken to Toowoomba Hospital.

A forensic crash investigation is underway.

Police have not said where and when the car was stolen.
