Women’s World Cup on Seven: Matildas win over Denmark top rated TV show for 2023

The World Cup showdown between the Matildas and Denmark was another smash hit for Seven — reaching 6.54 million Aussie viewers on Monday night.

The 2-0 win over the Danes in Sydney has become the top-rating program across the nation for 2023 — and it could still get even more stellar as the Matildas march through the tournament continues to capture the country’s imagination.

The game’s average audience of 3.56 million included a national broadcast audience of 3.18 million viewers on Seven — 2.29 million in the capital cities — and another 384,000 viewers on 7plus, a record audience for the channel.

Of the 2.29 million, 290,000 were Perth fans wanting to witness history in the making as the Matildas qualified for the quarter-finals.

Seven’s FIFA World Cup pre-game coverage was the second most-watched show on Monday night with a national audience of 1.04 million.

The metro record for the year was previously 1.981 million, set by Nine’s State of Origin Game I in June.
