Xbox fans to get a huge free upgrade for 85-rated game – and you can try it early

XBOX fans are in for a big treat soon, with one of the platform’s biggest games set to be getting a big free upgrade soon.

Bethesda, the developer of Xbox Series X|S exclusive Starfield, has revealed a complete overhaul of the game, with plenty of big additions and changes to make the game better.

Some of these changes are things that fans have been asking for since the game first launched in September 2023, while others are all-new additions.

The biggest addition for Xbox Series X owners is a 60fps mode, which will allow the game to run at double the frame rate the game currently does for a smoother experience.

Microsoft and Bethesda have stopped short of mentioning the Series S when talking about this specific update, so it seems like only the more expensive console will be getting it.

Running the game at 60fps will likely have a toll on the visuals, and the game will most likely run at a much lower resolution to accommodate.

For players on 120Hz screens, though, which refresh at twice the rate of most displays, there will also be a 40fps option, striking a balance between smoother gameplay and better visuals.

Another addition is improved surface maps, which will overhaul the maps players use to navigate on the surface of planets and in cities, one of the biggest complaints players had about the game originally.

Players will also be able to tweak the difficulty of the game with new options in the settings menu, allowing for easier or harder ground combat, ship combat, and more.

Another new option is the ability to decorate the interior of ships, and the ability to change traits and appearance.

The update is available now for beta players on PC via Steam, but will be coming to Xbox Series X|S very soon, once any bugs are sorted out on PC.
