WA Netball League 2024 : Western Roar take revenge and top spot over Hamersley Comets

The Western Roar have exacted revenge for their defeat in last year’s grand final, snatching a six-goal win over reigning champions Hamersley Comets to take top spot on the ladder.

The highly-anticipated match between the league’s top two teams did not disappoint and after an arm-wrestle in the first quarter the Roar took a narrow one-goal lead at half time.

With Comets star shooter Aitaua Enari sidelined with a knee injury, Emma Cosh and Madeline Ash combined in the circle to give their team a three-goal advantage going into the final quarter.

A huge final term saw the Roar pull away, outscoring the Comets 15-7. West Coast Fever training partner Emma Putt was the stand out, finishing the game with 22 goal and just one miss.

The Roar remain as the only team undefeated going into round seven and are outright ladder leaders on 12 points.

Peel Lightning celebrated their first win of the season with a tight 50-48 victory over the Southside Demons.

A slow start cost the Demons. They trailed by four goals at quarter time before clicking into gear but Lightning held on and nothing separated the teams at half time.

Lightning shooter Kasey Ridout proved to be the difference, her 36-goal haul gave her side the edge in the final moments to scrape the two-goal win.

The Sharks have continued their strong start to the season with a solid 55-43 goal win against the Souwest Jets.

Yet to win a game this season the Jets fought hard but were unable to curb the dominance of the Sharks shooting duo of Larrissa Harrison and Sophie Eastaugh.

The 12-goal win will fill the Sharks with plenty of confidence as they prepare to face the ladder-leading Roar next week.

The Rangers recorded the biggest win of the round with a 26-goal thumping of the West Coast Warriors.

The Warriors were unable to deliver for club legend Steph Cooper who showcased her versatility starting in goal keeper before a switch to goal shooter in her 100th state league game.

Jamaica Jauncey, who was recently picked for the First Nations national team, shot 27 goals in a bid to lift her side but it wasn’t enough.

Rangers shooters were unstoppable and dominated the second half, Georgia Pitt top scored with 34 goals while Abby Hicks finished with 23 from 27 attempts.
